How to wear metallics

01 October 2015

Magpies rejoice – metallic is trending, especially silver tones. Even for the sparkle shy, there are subtle ways to incorporate the glamorous tones into your wardrobe, especially if you have a penchant for looking polished rather than attention-seeking.

Here are the rules of wearing metallics:

1. Day and night. Metallic tones aren’t reserved for evening outfits only. Try incorporating a pair of the Ziera Lido to your daily look if you’re after something more restrained. Silver shoes are a lot more wearable and discrete than other tones; they will also look great with your favourite pair of blue jeans.

2. Contrast is key. When wearing metallic day-to-day, pair your chosen garment with more neutral pieces to play down the glitz and glam for the office. For example, wear a silver top with a pair of black pants, or a metallic dress with some black ankle boots.

3. Glitter seekers. If you want to try a more eclectic outfit, go all out and opt for a pleated, metallic midi skirt – the high-waist, A-line style will give you the illusion of an hourglass figure. When paired with a white shirt or T-shirt, it’s a smart, fashionable outfit that can take you from the office to dinner with friends.

4. Subtle yet shimmering. Don’t forget your accessories for an easy nod to the trend. Why not opt for a pair of loafers, reflective sunglasses, shimmery nails or a statement clutch or tote?

5. Have fun. Gone are the days of only being allowed to wearing a single tone of jewellery at one time and the same applies to this season’s metallic attire. If you want to mix your silver shoes with a pink metallic piece, do so.

Remember, fashion is meant to be enjoyable so don’t be afraid to shine bright like a diamond; we guarantee you’ll gain compliments for trying something different!
